I'm traveling to France and Scotland for the first two weeks of June; I've never been to either country, and I'm not sure what to wear. I love my Harris Tweed coats, but tweed may be too warm for France, and given that I'm traveling light, simply my carry-on bag, I'm only taking one coat. One wonders if that one coat ought to be a blazer?
Also, I've been looking for some time for town boots, something like a Chelsea, something that will take a good polish for evenings out, but still be comfortable for day wear. (I live in Northern Minnesota, the nearest haberdasheries are in Duluth, and none of them carry a town boot that will take a shine.)
I thought to carry along: one coat (I'll wear it on the plane), 2 wool sweaters (earth tones), 3 shirts (1 white, 1 blue, 1 blue and white), 3 pairs of pants (1 light grey, 1 dark grey, and 1 pair of blue-jeans for traveling or hiking), and 1 or 2 pairs of shoes (the Chelsea's if I can yet find a pair, and 1 pair of suede boat shoes).
I don't want to look like a complete dandy, but I do want to look as if I'm paying attention to my own appearance. If anyone would be kind enough to offer some insight into what I ought to carry along, or ought not to carry along in so spartan a baggage, it would be most helpful.
